Hollywood Tower

The Hollywood Tower is a thirteen-story residential building in Hollywood featuring French Normandy architecture, housing fifty apartments and three penthouse units. The structure displays pointed arches, stone facades, and decorative turrets reminiscent of medieval castles in France.

The building was erected in 1929 as housing for employees of the growing film industry in Los Angeles. It received designation on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.

The tower carries a name reflecting Hollywood's film industry, while its French Normandy details recall the architectural tastes of 1920s Europe. Residents use the rooftop gardens as a quiet retreat within the city, with communal areas offering social meeting spots.

Visitors will find no public tours offered at this residential building, but its location near the Hollywood Freeway allows a quick view from the street. The neon signs are most visible at night, when they illuminate the building's silhouette.

The neon sign atop the building has served as a directional landmark for drivers on the Hollywood Freeway for decades. Few know that the underground garage was among the first in Los Angeles to be built directly beneath a tall residential structure.
