MiraCosta College, formerly called Oceanside-Carlsbad Junior College
MiraCosta College is a public educational institution in California serving students from the North San Diego County region. It offers over 70 certificates and degree programs across business, health sciences, arts, languages, mathematics, and social sciences.
The college was founded in 1934 as Oceanside-Carlsbad Junior College, making it the second community college in San Diego County at the time. It received its current name and relocated to its present location on Barnard Drive in 1964.
The name MiraCosta comes from the Spanish term for the region's coastal location. The campus is home to students from many backgrounds, creating a meeting place where different cultures and communities naturally come together.
The main campus is located in Oceanside with additional sites in Cardiff and Carlsbad, all easily reached by car. Prospective students can take virtual campus tours to preview the facilities before visiting in person.
The college offers a specialized biomanufacturing program that explores microscopic organisms and their applications in biotechnology. This forward-looking program prepares students for careers in a rapidly growing field.
