North Park, Neighborhood and gay village in San Diego, United States.

North Park is a neighborhood in San Diego that centers around the intersection of University Avenue and 30th Street, featuring numerous craft breweries, independent shops, and contemporary restaurants. The area spans several blocks with mixed-use buildings where homes, stores, and entertainment spaces sit side by side.

The neighborhood began in 1893 when Joseph Nash sold land to James Monroe Hartley, who transformed it from a lemon grove into residential plots. These early years laid the foundation for growth into a popular residential area that later developed culturally and commercially.

The neighborhood has become an important gathering place for the LGBTQ+ community, with rainbow flags decorating streets and businesses that welcome everyone openly. This character shows through in daily life, from the people you meet to the events and spaces that celebrate inclusion and diversity.

The neighborhood connects to downtown San Diego through multiple bus routes along University Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard, with regular service during daytime hours. The pedestrian layout is flat and easy to navigate, making it simple to explore the area on foot.

The North Park Dryden Historic District contains California Bungalows designed by builder David Owen Dryden in the early 20th century. These homes still define the appearance of several streets today and give the neighborhood a distinctive architectural character.
