Mission Beach

Mission Beach is a coastal neighborhood in San Diego that sits on a sandbar between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay. Boardwalks line both sides of this strip, where you'll find shops, restaurants, and recreational areas facing the water.

The neighborhood took shape in 1925 when an amusement center opened and residential lots began selling to early residents. This initial development set the tone for the area's growth as a beach community.

The neighborhood maintains community traditions through beach volleyball tournaments, water sports competitions, and seasonal gatherings along the shoreline.

The neighborhood is easy to explore with walking and biking paths on both sides of the sandbar. Public transportation links the area to the rest of San Diego, making it accessible to visit.

The Wave House entertainment complex features an artificial wave machine and a historic swimming pool from decades past. That pool was once the world's largest saltwater facility of its kind and still draws visitors curious about the vintage structure.
