Yorba-Slaughter Adobe

The Yorba-Slaughter Adobe is a one-story earthen brick residence with an additional sleeping loft tucked under the roof. Wide porches encircle all sides of the structure, providing shelter and shade typical of early California ranch architecture.

Construction took place between 1852 and 1853, making it one of the county's oldest surviving residential structures. It reflects the era when cattle ranching dominated the landscape and settlements were just beginning to take root in the valley.

Local Native American workers contributed their building expertise to construct this adobe structure. The building became an important gathering place and rest point for travelers passing through the region.

This site is managed as part of the San Bernardino County Museum and sits alongside a recreated 1890s-era general store. The location on Pomona Rincon Road is straightforward to find and explore at your own pace during regular visiting hours.

By 1870, the adobe had transformed into a post office and became a hub for various commercial activities in the area. This shift reveals how a simple dwelling evolved into a vital business center for the developing community.
