Western University of Health Sciences, Private health sciences university in Pomona, California, US
Western University of Health Sciences is a private not-for-profit educational institution in Pomona, California, focused on preparing professionals across multiple health disciplines. The main campus covers 22 acres (9 hectares) and houses teaching buildings, research facilities, and clinics where patients receive care from supervised students.
Founded in 1977 as the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, this institution became the first new medical school established in California after a long pause in such openings. Over the following decades, it expanded to include colleges for dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, and veterinary medicine.
The campus brings together students from nine distinct health professions, creating a training environment where future veterinarians, dentists, and pharmacists interact regularly with each other. This approach reflects a commitment to preparing professionals who understand how different healthcare disciplines connect in daily practice.
Visitors to the campus can access several public clinics including a pharmacy, eye care center, and travel health clinic that serve the local community. Most areas are open to the public during daytime hours, although some research and teaching spaces remain restricted to enrolled students.
In addition to human health training, the institution operates a full-service Pet Health Center run by veterinary students under supervision. This clinic offers both routine treatments and specialized care for animals, open to residents throughout the surrounding area.
