Legend City, Western theme park in Phoenix, United States
Legend City was an amusement park spanning 87 acres along the Phoenix-Tempe border, offering rides, attractions, and entertainment areas designed around a Western theme. The grounds contained various themed zones where visitors could walk through different scenes and experiences representing Old West settings.
The park opened in 1963 and closed in 1983, changing ownership multiple times including under U-Haul founder Sam Shoen. These ownership shifts reflected changing business conditions that eventually led to the park's closure.
Local television personalities Wallace and Ladmo performed weekly shows at this location, giving out their famous Ladmo Bags filled with treats to visiting children. These performances became a highlight for Phoenix families and created memories that lasted long after the park closed.
The location straddled the border between two cities, making it accessible from both Phoenix and Tempe. Since the park no longer exists, visitors interested in its history can explore the former grounds and surrounding areas where it once stood.
The park featured a Pipeline skateboarding track about 1000 feet long installed in 1965, making it one of the earliest skateboarding venues in Arizona. This facility attracted early skateboard enthusiasts years before the sport became widely popular.
