Ahwatukee

Ahwatukee is an urban residential village in southern Phoenix nestled at the base of South Mountain. The area mixes residential neighborhoods with desert terrain and mountain views throughout its landscape.

The land began as a testing ground for International Harvester trucks in the mid-1900s. Residential development started in 1970 when Presley Development Company began building homes here.

The community gathers at Pecos Park, where neighbors meet regularly to discuss local issues and shape their shared future. Daily life here centers on residential streets and family-oriented public spaces that define neighborhood identity.

The area has limited entry points, creating a contained neighborhood feel where car travel is essential. The layout spreads across a wide area, so walking to explore requires patience and planning.

The entire area functions as one large cul-de-sac with very few entry and exit routes. This unusual layout creates a self-contained neighborhood that feels separate from the wider city around it.
