College of the Company of Jesus

The College of the Company of Jesus is a colonial-era building arranged around central courtyards with multiple interconnected wings. The structure contains classrooms, chapels, and living spaces that show how a religious teaching community was organized.

The building was founded in 1608 as the Jesuits expanded their educational mission in Guatemala. After 1767, when the Spanish Crown removed the order from its territories, the building passed to other institutions.

The college served as a meeting place where different social groups learned together during colonial times. It reflected the educational vision of the Jesuits, who believed in bringing instruction to people from all backgrounds.

The building is open to visitors year-round, and you can walk through the courtyards and various rooms at your own pace. Wear comfortable shoes because there are many stairs and corridors to navigate.

Original wall paintings and decorative details from the 17th century are still visible in some rooms and corridors. These small artistic touches reveal how skilled the craftspeople were and how much care went into finishing the spaces.
