Usulután Department, First-level administrative division in eastern El Salvador.

The department of Usulután extends over 2,130 square kilometers, making it the largest administrative territory within El Salvador's boundaries.

In 1865, Usulután Department was officially separated from San Miguel department, establishing its own administrative status in southeastern El Salvador.

The name Usulután originates from the Nawat language, translating to 'city of ocelots', reflecting the indigenous heritage of this region.

The department includes several coastal areas such as El Espino beach and Jiquilisco Bay, which support local fishing industries and tourism activities.

Many residents of Usulután have migrated to the United States, leading to the informal nickname 'Shulton city' for this department.
