El Imposible National Park, National park in Ahuachapán Department, El Salvador

Located between San Francisco Menéndez and Tacuba municipalities, the natural reserve spans 5,000 hectares of mountainous terrain with elevations from 250 to 1,425 meters.

The area dates to pre-Hispanic Mesoamerican periods, later becoming a critical coffee trade route where many travelers lost their lives crossing dangerous mountain passages.

Eight archaeological sites within the park display pre-Hispanic artifacts, including Piedra Sellada with its stone engravings and petroglyphs along the Guayapa tributary.

Access requires permits from SALVANATURA offices, with entrance fees of $3 for Salvadorans, $6 for international visitors, and $1 for students over 12 years old.

The park contains eight river sources, shelters 500 plant species, 100 mammal species, 285 bird species, and maintains a population of endangered white hawks.
