The museum occupies a small house with wooden roof and tiles, featuring two exhibition rooms dedicated to Panamanian folklore and cultural artifacts.
The museum building stands on the birthplace of Manuel F. Zárate, where residents from Los Santos, Herrera, and Veraguas gathered in 1969 to construct it.
The first exhibition room contains traditional Panamanian crafts, musical instruments, sculptures, and photographic records of regional folk manifestations and celebrations.
The museum operates under the Ministry of Culture of Panama and underwent renovations in 2018, including electrical rehabilitation and general maintenance.
The second exhibition room preserves personal belongings of Manuel F. Zárate along with research materials about traditional decimal and verse forms in Panama.
