Playa Cambutal

Playa Cambutal is a Pacific beach on the Azuero Peninsula with brown sand and calm waters ideal for swimming and surfing. Coastal forests back the shoreline, and the bay offers good conditions for water activities.

The area was once an isolated fishing village before becoming known as a surf destination in recent decades. Development brought tourist facilities while the local character of the place remained largely intact.

Fishing boats and local residents share the beach with visiting surfers, creating a meeting point of traditional and modern life. The mix of simple homes and newer accommodations shows how the place gradually changes while staying connected to its origins.

The best surfing season runs during the wet months when waves are larger, though conditions are good year-round. Local hotels and guides provide equipment rentals and can arrange fishing trips or boat outings.

The beach borders Cerro Hoya National Park, a protected area for endangered scarlet macaws and other rare forest animals. Visitors may spot these birds and various wildlife from the shore or on park excursions.
