Christ the King statue

This monumental figure in reinforced concrete and soapstone stands on a hill and looks out over the landscape below. Its outstretched arms are visible from many places throughout the city and surrounding region.

The monument was built in the 1950s, a decade after a prolonged armed conflict in the country. Its completion marked an attempt to symbolize a period of recovery and renewal for the nation.

The site draws believers who use the vantage point for prayer and reflection over the valley below. The pathways around it serve as spaces for personal contemplation and spiritual connection.

The hill is best reached by public transportation to the nearest station, followed by a ride uphill and a short walk. The terrain is steep, so wear appropriate shoes and bring water.

The hill takes its name from quartz deposits found in the surrounding area, which give the site a geological distinction. These crystals can sometimes be seen during walks around the monument.
