Ciudad Bolívar

Ciudad Bolívar is a locality in southern Bogotá, Colombia, covering mountainous terrain with both urban and rural zones. The slopes rise from valleys to upper ridges where less densely populated areas transition into open land.

Former agricultural estates transformed into residential neighborhoods during the 1950s as the capital grew rapidly and attracted people from other regions. Further urban development occurred in later decades along the steep hillsides.

Community centers and public squares serve as gathering points where neighborhoods organize and discuss local matters. On weekends, street sections transform into markets where vendors sell fresh produce and household goods.

The TransMiCable gondola lift connects higher neighborhoods to the main public transport network, overcoming the steep topography. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as many streets are inclined and require longer walks.

Paleontological excavations in the area uncovered fossils of Etayoa bacatensis, a prehistoric animal species from the region. These findings contribute to understanding Colombia's ancient fauna.
