Villa Mayor, Residential district in southern Bogotá, Colombia.
Villa Mayor is a residential district in southern Bogotá, built on mostly flat terrain with a slight slope toward Calle 38A Sur, and organized in a grid of residential blocks. Small shops and businesses line the streets throughout, covering the everyday needs of those who live there.
The district took shape in the 1980s as part of the planned expansion of southern Bogotá, responding to the city's growing need for housing. The businessman Luis Carlos Sarmiento Angulo played a key role in developing this residential area.
The neighborhood has a small community center that serves as a meeting point for residents and occasionally hosts local artists and performances. These spaces give the social life of the area a fixed gathering point and shape the daily rhythm of the district.
The TransMilenio station at NQS Calle 38A Sur is close by and offers a direct link to central Bogotá. Several bus routes also pass through the area, making it easy to move around the neighborhood and reach nearby districts.
The Parque de Tubos is built from pipes and industrial materials rarely used in other play areas across the city, giving it a look unlike any other public space in the area. This draws families and children from the surrounding streets to this corner of the district.
