Description

Suba is an administrative unit in northern Bogotá that includes residential neighborhoods, commercial centers, and natural green spaces. The area extends across hilly terrain with broad streets and densely built zones interrupted by parks and open areas.

History

The area was originally inhabited by Muisca communities before becoming part of the city. During the late decades of the 20th century, it evolved from a rural zone into a densely populated urban district.

Culture

The name comes from the Muysccubun language and means Flower of the Sun, a reference to the indigenous past of the area. In some neighborhoods, traces of these roots are still visible today in place names and local traditions.

Practical

TransMilenio stations along Autopista Norte and Avenida Suba connect the area to the city center. Visitors walking around should note that hills in some neighborhoods are steep and make sturdy shoes advisable.
