Arraiján District, Administrative district west of Panama Canal, Panama
Arraiján District sits west of the Panama Canal in Panamá Oeste Province and serves as a residential area for many who work in the capital. The area covers several communities spread across gentle hills and flat stretches, mixing urban settlements with rural sections.
The district began as a bedroom community for commuters traveling daily toward Panama City and grew rapidly from the 1990s onward. Increasing development transformed former agricultural land into densely settled neighborhoods that now form a large part of the metropolitan area.
The district contains eight corregimientos including Arraiján, Juan Demóstenes Arosemena, Nuevo Emperador, Santa Clara, Veracruz, Vista Alegre, Burunga, and Cerro Silvestre.
Most facilities and shops line the main roads, while residential neighborhoods often lie down winding streets that require some local knowledge. Public transport runs often, but having your own vehicle makes getting around much easier, especially in outlying areas.
The French school Lycée Paul Gauguin sits in Panama Pacifico and offers an international education option for children living in the district. The school attracts families from different countries who stay and work in the area for a time.
