24 de Diciembre is a residential corregimiento situated east of Panama City in the foothills of the Cerro Azul region. The area comprises several neighborhood zones including Ruben Dario Paredes and Santa Maria de los Angeles that form a densely populated community.
The corregimiento was officially created in 2002 when residents of the formerly named Realengo area sought administrative independence and self-governance. This establishment reflected the community's desire to organize themselves better and address local needs within their own district.
The initial settlers of the area, formerly known as Realengo, came from central provinces seeking improved living conditions and economic opportunities.
The area is situated in foothill terrain with decent public bus connections to Panama City nearby. Expect warm, humid weather and wear sturdy shoes as the neighborhood sits on sloped streets.
