Torre del Caballito, Office skyscraper on Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City, Mexico
Description
Torre del Caballito is an office skyscraper on Paseo de la Reforma featuring a black glass exterior that rises 135 meters above street level with 34 floors of workspace. The tower includes 15 underground parking levels and covers a total office footprint of around 60,000 square meters across all floors.
History
The structure was originally designed in 1980 as a Holiday Inn hotel, but economic pressures and the devastating 1985 earthquake prompted a change in plans. It was completed in 1988 as an office building instead.
Culture
The building houses offices of Members of Parliament and senators, representing a center of political activity in Mexico City's governmental district.
Practical
The building is equipped with 13 high-speed elevators that move efficiently between floors, supporting the daily flow of workers throughout the structure. As an active office building, visitor access may be limited to public areas such as the lobby or plaza areas.
Did you know?
The tower incorporates 70 seismic shock absorbers throughout its structure to dissipate earthquake forces, a feature designed to protect against the frequent seismic activity in this region. Beneath the foundation, concrete piles extend deep underground to anchor the building and enhance overall stability.
