Museo del Pulque y las Pulquerías - MUPyP

The Museo del Pulque y las Pulquerías is housed in a former convent and displays two exhibition halls focused on this fermented beverage made from maguey plant sap. The rooms feature the vessels, tools, and equipment that were part of the traditional preparation and serving process.

The museum opened in 2019 within a convent building that dates to 1592. This location preserves the story of a drink that had deep roots in Mesoamerica long before Spanish arrival.

Pulque shaped how communities gathered and celebrated across Mexico for hundreds of years, and the exhibits show how different regions had their own ways of making and drinking it. Walking through the rooms, you notice how this beverage was woven into local traditions and social rituals.

The museum welcomes visitors from Wednesday to Monday at a location on Avenida Hidalgo in central Cuauhtémoc. Plan to spend time in both halls to fully take in the displays and their details.

The old pulquerias were more than just drinking establishments, they were social gathering spots where people from different backgrounds came together. The museum captures this overlooked side of the story through photos and descriptions of these everyday meeting places.
