Antimonumento +43, Memorial on Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City, Mexico
Antimonumento +43 is a red steel structure on the median strip of Paseo de la Reforma in Mexico City, formed by a plus sign and the number 43. The work stands three meters tall in front of the Superior Court of Justice.
Installed in April 2015, it marks the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa in Iguala, Guerrero, during September 2014. The event sparked nationwide protests and international attention.
The site often displays candles, photographs and flowers left by visitors who come to remember those who vanished. Families gather here each month to keep public attention focused on unsolved cases across the nation.
The site is accessible from Paseo de la Reforma at any time and stands on the median between traffic lanes. You can reach the spot on foot or using public transport that runs along this main avenue.
The work contains concrete foundations brought from Jalisco and a concrete turtle decorated with 43 rocks. Each rock bears the name of one of the missing students.
