Isla Contoy National Park

The island stretches 8.5 kilometers in length and encompasses 3.17 square kilometers of protected land at the convergence of Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico.

Archaeological discoveries indicate human presence on the island between 300-200 BC, preceding the development of Maya civilization during the pre-classic period.

The park functions as a research center where scientists study 152 marine bird species, including the largest grey pelican colony on Mexico's eastern coast.

Access to the park requires advance permits, with authorized boats departing from Cancun, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Juarez carrying a maximum of 200 visitors daily.

Four turtle species select the island's beaches as nesting grounds: loggerhead, green, hawksbill, and leatherback turtles coexist in this protected environment.
