Puerto Morelos Lighthouse

The Puerto Morelos Lighthouse is a white cylindrical tower with a red lantern that rises 14 meters high and guides vessels through Mexican Caribbean waters. The structure emits light signals every six seconds and is visible from across the entire coastline.

The original lighthouse was built in 1905 and replaced in 1946 by a new structure that was damaged during Hurricane Beulah in 1967. The present version was constructed afterward to serve maritime navigation at this location.

The lighthouse stands near the central pier where fishermen land their daily catches and shape the rhythm of the local community. It serves as a familiar landmark for those who work or live in the area.

The structure is easily accessible from the central pier and offers good vantage points for viewing the coast and sea. Early morning or late afternoon visits work well for photography and avoiding midday crowds.

The previous lighthouse structure still stands in place despite being damaged during the storm and later proving impossible to remove. The sandy foundations proved too unstable for demolition equipment, leaving the old building as a silent monument.
