NRG Arena, sports center

NRG Arena is a 350,000 sq ft sports center in NRG Park, Houston, Texas. Its first-floor Arena Proper covers 24,000 gross square feet and seats up to 8,500 people. Four exhibit halls adjoin it: Hall D at 100,000 sq ft, Hall A at 75,000 sq ft, and Halls B and C at 50,000 sq ft each. The upper level holds meeting rooms, offices and the Stockman's Club.

Construction of the Astroarena finished in 1974 beside the Astrohall, which was demolished in May 2002 for a parking lot as Reliant Stadium neared completion. Reliant Energy bought naming rights in 2000, making it Reliant Arena; after NRG Energy acquired Reliant, it became NRG Arena on March 12, 2014. It housed Hurricane Katrina evacuees in 2005 and hosted the Houston Comets' final WNBA season in 2008.

The arena hosts the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's peripheral events, and in 2003 it held the National Catholic Youth Conference. Its Stockman's Club on the upper level recalls the building's rodeo ties. In 2005 it served as auxiliary housing and a field clinic for residents displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

NRG Arena sits in NRG Park, south of central Houston, next to the Astrodome and NRG Stadium. The Astrohall that once stood beside it was demolished in May 2002 to make way for a parking lot built as Reliant Stadium was completed. Inside, the Arena Proper occupies the first floor, with four exhibit halls and the Stockman's Club on the upper level.

The building can be divided into four large halls that can be flexibly combined or separated depending on event needs. This modular layout allows the space to transform from a single large event into multiple smaller activities happening at the same time.
