The Rawls Course, Golf course at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, US.
The Rawls Course is an 18-hole golf course on the Texas Tech University campus with wide fairways and strategically placed bunkers. The layout was designed to use natural elevation changes and create a technically challenging playing experience across the Texas plains.
The site was developed in 2003 by architect Tom Doak, who transformed a former cotton field into a modern golf course. The project required moving massive amounts of earth to recreate the landforms of the Caprock region.
The course serves as a hub where Texas Tech golfers and visitors from across the region come together to play. Local players appreciate it as one of the few championship-level courses in West Texas where they can challenge themselves on a serious design.
Visitors will find a driving range, practice areas, and golf instruction to improve their game. The course also offers club rentals and an on-site restaurant, so golfers have everything needed for a complete outing.
The land was completely reshaped, with the new topography reflecting the geological features of the nearby Caprock Escarpment. This makes the course an interesting example of how a flat site was transformed into a dramatic golfing landscape.
