Col. Monroe M. Shipe House, Historical residence in Hyde Park, Austin, United States.

The Shipe House in Austin is a two-story residential building with Stick style architecture and Queen Anne decorative details located at the corner of Avenue G and East 39th Street. It combines distinctive wooden framework details with a flat concrete roof and represents the building styles of the late 1800s.

The residence was commissioned in 1892 by Monroe Martin Shipe and used lumber from the grandstands of the former State Fair of Texas. The building was constructed on land that had previously been part of the fairgrounds before the neighborhood developed in its place.

The house reflects how people in this neighborhood chose to build homes using available local materials and construction methods from that era. Walking around it reveals details that show the craftsmanship and practical choices of its original residents.

The building is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood and is easy to find when approaching from Avenue G near East 39th Street. The structure is visible from public spaces and can be viewed while walking through the area.

The house was partially built from lumber taken from the State Fair of Texas grandstands that previously occupied this site. This reuse of materials shows how early Austin residents made practical use of resources from their expanding city.
