The Col. Monroe M. Shipe House at 3816 Avenue G is a two-story home completed in 1892. It combines a Stick style form with Queen Anne decoration and a flat concrete roof. Shipe founded Hyde Park and set aside the blocks near his house as the "Shadowlawn" subdivision.

The residence was commissioned in 1892 by Monroe Martin Shipe and used lumber from the grandstands of the former State Fair of Texas. The building was constructed on land that had previously been part of the fairgrounds before the neighborhood developed in its place.

Shipe named the blocks around his house "Shadowlawn," a subdivision within Hyde Park. The house sits at 3816 Avenue G and has been a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and a National Register listing since March 29, 1983, so its Stick-style form and Queen Anne trim are documented rather than altered.

The building is located in the Hyde Park neighborhood and is easy to find when approaching from Avenue G near East 39th Street. The structure is visible from public spaces and can be viewed while walking through the area.

The lumber in the house was found during renovation to come from the grandstands of the State Fair of Texas, which was once held nearby. The house sits at 3816 Avenue G and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on March 29, 1983.
