Peter and Clotilde Shipe Mansbendel House, Tudor Revival residence in Hyde Park Historic District, Austin, United States.
The Peter and Clotilde Shipe Mansbendel House is a two-story residence featuring detailed wooden carvings throughout its interior and exterior in the Tudor Revival style. The building displays traditional elements of this architectural approach including pitched roofs, half-timber details, and ornate woodwork on windows and doorways.
Peter Mansbendel, a master carpenter, constructed this residential building in 1925 as part of the Shadow Lawn Historic District development in Austin. The house received recognition in 1990 when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places, acknowledging its importance to local architectural history.
The house displays early American residential craftsmanship through its detailed woodwork and structural design choices. The elaborate carved elements on doorways and wall panels show the high standards that craftspeople of that era maintained.
The house is located on Avenue F in Austin and can be viewed from the exterior, where the Tudor Revival details are clearly visible. Its protected status within a historic district means the surrounding area reflects the time period when the building was constructed.
Peter Mansbendel personally incorporated many of the wooden carvings into the house, using his skills as an experienced carpenter. These hand-crafted details make it a particularly authentic example of one craftsman's work rather than mass-produced elements.
