Del Valle, unincorporated community in Travis County, Texas, United States
Del Valle is a small unincorporated community in Travis County, Texas, located roughly 24 kilometers southeast of Austin and stretching along the Colorado River. The area consists of flat grassland with scattered homes, older farmhouses, and open fields bordered by trees, without large buildings or office structures.
Del Valle was established in the 1870s and took its name from Santiago Del Valle, owner of a large land grant in Travis County. The early economy was built on agriculture, with cotton and grain cultivation supported by mills and gins for processing crops.
The name Del Valle comes from Santiago Del Valle, the original land grantee who settled the area in the 1800s. The community still shows its farming heritage through visible fields and older homesteads, while welcoming new residents and workers who are gradually reshaping the place.
Del Valle is easily reached by car from Austin, situated about 24 kilometers southeast of downtown. The best time to explore is during spring and fall when the weather is mild and outdoor spaces are most comfortable.
Bergstrom Army Air Field, established in 1942, rapidly brought growth to the area but later closed and was converted into Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The proximity to the airport and the new Tesla Gigafactory demonstrates how Del Valle has shifted from a quiet farming community to a place of industrial development.
