Llano County, County administration center in Llano, Texas, US

Llano County is an administrative region in central Texas located on the Edwards Plateau, spanning approximately 966 square miles. The landscape features rolling hills, rivers running through it, and two major lakes that supply water to the area.

The county was established in 1856 through the Fisher-Miller Land Grant program, which brought European settlers to the Texas Hill Country. German immigrants became key founders and shaped the region's early development and settlement patterns.

The Llano River comes alive each winter with holiday lights that draw people together for celebration. The festival reflects how the community gathers to mark seasonal traditions along the water.

Visitors can access county services at the main administrative center in Llano, which handles property records, permits, and public information. The area is easiest to explore by car, with multiple points of interest spread across the rolling landscape.

The Darmstadt Society of Forty, a German emigration group, established colonies in this region during the 1800s. The town of Castell remains today as a living reminder of these German settlement efforts and their architectural heritage.
