Mayborn Museum Complex, Natural science and cultural history museum at Baylor University in Waco, Texas.
The Mayborn Museum Complex is a natural science and cultural history museum at Baylor University spanning approximately 142,000 square feet. It features 17 themed discovery rooms with interactive stations focused on geology, paleontology, and natural history.
The museum developed from three separate collections: the Strecker Museum established in 1856, the Ollie Mae Moen Discovery Center opened in 1965, and the Governor Bill Daniel Historic Village. These three sections were eventually combined into a single museum complex.
The Historic Village section displays nine original wood buildings from the 1890s, showing how people lived and worked during that era. Walking through these structures, visitors experience daily life in an early Texas community.
The museum is located on the university campus and is easy to access by car. Visitors should check ahead before going, as hours and conditions can vary throughout the year.
The natural science wing features walk-in dioramas showing prehistoric landscapes of Central Texas. A detailed recreation of the Waco Mammoth Site is particularly striking, allowing visitors to see how the region looked millions of years ago.
