DeWare Field House, Historic gymnasium at Texas A&M University, College Station, US
The DeWare Field House was a brick gymnasium at Texas A&M University with wooden bleachers, a peaked roof, and arched windows positioned near Kyle Field. This structure served the campus athletics complex for several decades before demolition.
The building was constructed in 1924 as the primary basketball venue for Texas A&M University and served this role until 1954. Demolition occurred in 1997 to clear land for adjacent stadium expansion.
The facility received its name in 1939 to honor Charles DeWare Sr., Class of 1909, who captained both football and baseball teams.
The site is located on Joe Routt Boulevard northwest of Kyle Field and no longer exists on campus today. Visitors can only explore the historical location on the modern campus where this facility once stood.
Adjacent to this building, the Downs Natatorium was built in 1932 as a separate swimming facility. Both structures shared the same demolition date in 1997 when campus expansion projects required their removal.
