Denton Community Theatre

Denton Community Theatre occupies a renovated building downtown with a semi-thrust stage and seating for about 300 people in the main house. The facility includes a scene shop, dressing rooms, and hosts a range of productions throughout the year.

The building opened in 1949 as a movie theatre serving students from nearby universities. Over time it transitioned from showing films to hosting stage productions and became a community theatre.

The theatre serves as a gathering place where local performers and community members come together to present productions and watch stage shows and musicals. It has become a hub for the town's artistic activities and social connections.

The theatre is located at 214 West Hickory Street downtown and is straightforward to find and access. Planning ahead for shows is wise since the seating capacity fills up during popular productions.

The former movie house has a reputation for unexplained occurrences, with reports of flickering lights and objects moving on their own. Some believe the late manager J.P. Harrison may still be watching over the place in his own way.
