Texas Motor Speedway, Motorsport racing track in Fort Worth, United States
Texas Motor Speedway is a motorsport racing track in Fort Worth that covers a wide expanse of land surrounded by several covered grandstand sections. The track itself consists of four gently banked turns and two long straightaways that form an oval-shaped circuit.
The racing facility emerged in the mid-1990s when investors sought a modern alternative to the older venue in the southern part of the state. After nearly two years of construction, it opened in the late 1990s with a first major race event.
The oval draws large crowds twice a year when professional races take place and recreational vehicles camp around the grounds. Visitors experience the smell of burning rubber and the roar of engines racing through the turns at speeds exceeding 180 mph (290 km/h).
During race weekends, visitors should arrive early as access roads often become congested and the grounds are difficult to navigate on foot. On quieter days, interested guests can take guided walks through behind-the-scenes areas that offer views of the pit lane and finish line zones.
A massive screen hangs above the infield and displays close-up race action and real-time statistics for everyone on the grounds. This screen was the largest of its kind globally when it debuted and still dominates the center of the venue today.
