Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge, National wildlife refuge in southwestern Louisiana, United States.
The refuge covers 35,000 acres of wetlands, prairies, and marshes where numerous waterfowl species find shelter during winter migrations.
Executive Order No. 7780 established Lacassine National Wildlife Refuge in 1937 through the purchase of 13,000 acres from The Lacassane Company.
The refuge maintains educational programs and internship opportunities for students interested in wildlife conservation and environmental research.
Visitors can explore the three-mile auto tour route with interpretive signs, use observation towers, or access fishing piers from sunrise to sunset.
The Lacassine Pool, a marsh impoundment within the refuge, supports up to 300,000 pintail ducks during peak winter seasons.
