The Palo Alto Plantation stands on brick piers with a twelve-foot-wide porch under the roof line along Bayou Lafourche in Ascension Parish.
Built around 1847, the plantation belonged to Pierre Oscar Ayraud and Rosalie Rodriguez before the Lemann family acquired it in 1860.
The window panes contain historical etchings with names and initials, used by families to verify their diamond rings' authenticity.
The property currently operates as a bed and breakfast establishment and serves as a venue for various events in Louisiana.
French artist Marie Adrien Persac selected this Anglo-Creole type Louisiana plantation cottage as a subject for multiple paintings.
