Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic church built in Gothic style with brick walls and a distinctive square tower. The structure features a pitched roof in a basilica-style floor plan and sits on extensive grounds.

The original parish was established in 1793, but the current building was designed and constructed in 1856 by architect Wilson Grisamore. This construction replaced earlier structures that had served the community at this sacred site.

The church has preserved its original architecture while its architectural model, St. Joseph's Church in Thibodaux, was destroyed by fire in 1916. This survival makes it a rare surviving example of this particular architectural tradition in the region.
