Cherry Grove Plantation
Cherry Grove Plantation, Colonial agricultural residence in Adams County, Mississippi.
Cherry Grove Plantation is a former agricultural estate in Adams County with a one-and-a-half-story main building featuring symmetrical side wings, octagonal bays, and a raised brick basement foundation. The property preserves multiple outbuildings including a detached kitchen, smokehouse, stables, and barns that reflect different periods of development.
The estate was founded in 1788 by Pierre Surget and became established in the regional landscape. After a fire around 1865, the structure was reconstructed and retained its essential form.
The grounds reveal its past through various outbuildings arranged around the main house that speak to daily work and family life on a Southern plantation. These structures show how people organized their agricultural operations and domestic routines across multiple buildings.
The estate remains in agricultural operation and offers visitors insight into historical farming methods and handcraft techniques. The preserved cypress troughs and buildings show how people organized work in earlier times.
The Surget family has owned and operated the property continuously since its founding, making it one of the longest family-held estates in the region. This unbroken connection between the family and the land gives the place a rare historical continuity.
