Delta National Forest

Delta National Forest is a protected woodland spanning about 60,000 acres of floodplain forest with wetlands and river systems throughout western Mississippi. The terrain shifts between swampy areas filled with standing water and dense groves of hardwood trees typical of the region.

The forest was established in 1961 as a federal protected area to preserve the natural ecosystems of the Mississippi floodplain and prevent conversion to other uses. This designation reflected broader efforts to safeguard such landscapes for future generations.
