Excavations near Vicksburg in the 1970s uncovered the remains of an unidentified soldier from the conflict. This memorial site was established in 1980 to honor this individual and the countless others whose identities could not be determined.

This memorial honors approximately 50,000 unidentified soldiers and sailors who died during the American Civil War across the nation. It stands as a quiet reminder of the many people whose names were lost to history.
