Old Brick House, French Colonial house in Biloxi, US.
The Old Brick House is a French Colonial residence located on Bayview Avenue in Biloxi with heavy triple-layered brick walls and one and a half stories. The structure overlooks Back Bay and displays the architectural style brought by French settlers to the Gulf Coast.
The house was built in 1850 by John Henley, who served as sheriff and mayor of Biloxi. The land itself traces back to a Spanish grant given to Jean Baptiste Carquotte in 1784, linking the property to the region's colonial past.
The building's name reflects its distinctive construction method with solid brick walls, a technique rarely seen in the region today. This practical approach to building has made the house more resilient to the coastal environment than wooden structures of the same era.
The house functions as a rental venue for small events, meetings, and weddings. Visitors interested in using the space or viewing the interior should contact the Biloxi city offices to arrange access.
This is one of only two pre-Civil War homes that remain standing in Biloxi today. Its longevity is striking because it has weathered more than 150 years of powerful hurricanes while wooden structures from the same period largely disappeared.
