Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church

The Most Pure Heart of Mary Church is a Neoclassical building with a symmetrical facade, grand columns, and an interior decorated with stained glass windows showing biblical scenes. The soaring ceilings and open floor plan create a sense of spaciousness and light throughout the worship space.

The church was founded in 1899 and completed in 1908 to serve Mobile's Catholic community of Creole descent. It was built under the direction of the Society of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart, a religious group focused on pastoral care for underserved populations.

The Knights of Peter Claver, the largest Black Catholic organization in the United States, was born from this parish and continues to shape the spiritual life of many worshippers in the region.
