Wales West Light Railway, Heritage railway museum in Silverhill, Alabama, US
Wales West Light Railway is a heritage railway museum in Silverhill operating on a narrow gauge track approximately 1.6 kilometers long. The wooden passenger cars mounted on steel frames with English-sourced wheels carry visitors on regular journeys throughout the day.
The museum was established in 2001 and received the steam locomotive Dame Ann from the Exmoor Steam Railway in 2004. This British-built engine has been central to the museum's operations ever since.
The railway serves as a gathering place where families experience train travel alongside recreational activities in a relaxed setting. The seasonal themed journeys create occasions for shared memories and local celebrations throughout the year.
The site offers train rides alongside RV camping areas, a fishing lake, playground, swimming pool, and beach access for visitors. It works well to plan several hours for a visit since the grounds include activities for the whole day.
The steam locomotive Dame Ann is modeled after a British Penrhyn Port Class engine originally built by Hunslet Engine Company. This connection to English railway heritage makes the museum a rare example of British traditions operating in Alabama.
