Stuckey's Bridge, Metal bridge in Lauderdale County, US
Stuckey's Bridge is a metal truss bridge spanning the Chunky River in Lauderdale County, built with a Stearns through truss design by Virginia Bridge and Iron Company. The structure measures approximately 112 feet across and retains its original industrial metalwork from its construction period.
The bridge was completed in 1901 and replaced an earlier crossing constructed in 1850 that had served the area. Its addition to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 recognized its importance to the region's transportation history.
The bridge takes its name from a local figure whose inn once served travelers passing through the area, connecting the structure to stories of everyday frontier life.
The site is reached by driving southwest from Meridian on gravel roads and parking near the bridge's approach. Visitors should plan for walking and photography, bringing sturdy footwear suitable for the surrounding rural terrain and variable weather.
The bridge has attracted paranormal investigators and television crews documenting reported unexplained lights and sounds occurring at night near the structure. These accounts have transformed it into a destination for those curious about unusual phenomena.
