Temple Theatre, Movie theater in Historic Downtown Meridian, United States
Temple Theatre on 8th Street is a four-story movie house with around 1800 seats designed in Moorish style with ornate details throughout. The main auditorium features a historic pipe organ and hosts both film screenings and stage performances.
The building was constructed between 1923 and 1927 as a shrine temple and later converted into a motion picture house. The transformation happened when the Saenger organization took over and adapted the space for cinema operations.
The building takes its name from the shrine temple that previously occupied the site, blending historical roots with active community use. Visitors experience it as a working cultural space where films and performances continue to draw locals and visitors together.
The theater is located downtown with parking available near the building for visitors. Check with the venue directly for current showtimes and upcoming events to plan your visit accordingly.
The theater houses one of just two Robert Morton pipe organs still functioning in their original locations throughout Mississippi. This instrument with eight ranks remains a working part of the theater experience and is played during performances and special events.
