John Hand Building, High-rise bank building in Birmingham, Alabama
The John Hand Building stands 287 feet tall with 20 floors of limestone and metal window spandrels in Classical Revival style at North 20th Street.
Constructed in 1912 as the American Trust and Savings Bank headquarters, this structure remained Birmingham's tallest building until the City Federal Building surpassed it in 1913.
The building reflects early 20th-century American banking architecture with its monumental pediment entrance and grand banking lobby featuring Sylacauga marble details.
The structure combines commercial spaces in the lower eight floors with residential apartments in the upper twelve levels, connected to a parking deck by a pedestrian bridge.
The building houses the headquarters of technology company Shipt, marking its transformation from a traditional banking center to a modern tech hub.
