Estadio Campeón del Siglo, Football stadium in Bañados de Carrasco, Montevideo, Uruguay.
Estadio Campeón del Siglo is an association football venue in Bañados de Carrasco, an eastern neighborhood of Montevideo, Uruguay. The stadium features natural grass, four main stands, and modern facilities that accommodate around 40,000 spectators.
Construction began in February 2014 under architect Luis Rodríguez Tellado, following decades of discussion about different projects. The cost of building this new home for Club Atlético Peñarol reached around 40 million dollars.
The four stands carry the names of key club figures: Frank Henderson, Washington Cataldi, José Pedro Damiani, and Gastón Güelfi. This naming connects the venue directly to Peñarol's past and reminds visitors of people who shaped the club.
The venue sits about 17 kilometers (10.5 miles) northeast of central Montevideo and can be reached by dedicated bus lines or by car with ample parking available. The grounds offer modern visitor facilities, including covered seating and refreshment areas.
The Frank Henderson stand houses not only 12,200 seats but also the club headquarters and a museum showcasing Peñarol's past. Visitors can see trophies, historic jerseys, and memorabilia from more than a century of club history.
