Minas Novas

Minas Novas is a municipality in the Jequitinhonha region of Minas Gerais, positioned at 761 meters elevation with rolling highland terrain and several rivers. The settlement spans 1,810 square kilometers and sits amid mineral-rich landscapes that have shaped its character for generations.

The settlement took shape during Brazil's gold rush when explorer Sebastião Leme do Prado discovered rich gold deposits in the area. This discovery led to its establishment as a municipality in 1730, marking the beginning of its development as a mining center.

The June festival honoring the Virgin of the Rosary brings together residents through traditional dances, regional music, and handmade crafts reflecting African heritage. These celebrations weave religious and local customs into events the community gathers for each year.
