Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park, National park in West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Bukit Baka Bukit Raya National Park spans mountainous terrain covered in dense tropical rainforest in west-central Kalimantan. The landscape shifts between peat swamps at lower elevations and steeper forested slopes carved by river valleys.
The area gained protected status in 1992 when two separate reserves merged into one national park. This consolidation was part of Indonesia's broader effort to safeguard tropical forests in this part of Borneo.
Dayak communities live in villages surrounding the park and continue to use the forest in ways their ancestors did. Walking through the area, you notice hunting methods and plant gathering practices that shape how local people interact with the land.
Access to the park centers on Tumbang Habangoi village, reachable from Palangka Raya and serving as the main gateway for exploring trails. The dry season offers easier trekking conditions, as wet periods make paths muddy and challenging.
The park harbors rare animal and plant species found in few other Southeast Asian regions, including orangutans and clouded leopards. This biodiversity makes it one of the less visited but biologically significant protected areas in the region.
