Merewether Beach

Merewether Beach is a coastal stretch in New South Wales with light-colored sand and clear water suited for swimming and surfing. The area includes a well-known ocean bath complex at the southern end and varied zones for different water sports.

The area was originally part of the Burwood Estate until Merewether became an independent municipality in 1885. This separation marked the start of its development into a popular beach and residential destination.

The beach is a gathering place for surfers from around the world, especially during the annual Surfest competition. Local surf culture shapes how people spend their days here and gives the area its identity.

The area has changing rooms, cafes, and easy access to the coastal walking path. Visitors should pay attention to wind and water conditions and follow local warnings.

At the southern end sit the largest ocean bath pools in the Southern Hemisphere, built into rocky basins. These historic baths offer a protected swimming area independent of weather and sea conditions.
